I doubt Martin or Rothfuss will finish. If they do. Yes it will be a big event. But what could have been? Maybe they don’t care about their legacy. Fans do.
I don’t believe Pat wrote himself into a corner. I also don’t think the goal is to wrap up the entire story in just three books/three days. This part serves as a prelude, bringing us to the present timeline of Kvothe’s life. I’m hopeful he’ll finish the first trilogy, and I think he will. It’s the continuation of the story that concerns me.
I don't think Rothfuss can START it, let alone finish it, though I'm sure he'd love to have it over with. Writers block can be hard to beat even when the psychological and creative block is fresh. Add time and other pressures to the block such as alienating your publisher who has already paid for the book, and destroying your charity's credibility by making and failing on promises and funding accountability; well then that block becomes insurmountable without external help. Unless some sort of extreme intervention takes place by another creative, I doubt the book will ever exist, and it would have to be with no renumeration for the co-author since Rothfuss has already long spent the money meant to pay for the book he hasn't written.
A fantasy chapter is around 2100 words and/or 20 pages. I can write that in two days. If Rothfuss can't finish a chapter, it's because he doesn't want to. He apparently doesn't care about finishing, much like Martin.
I liked 'The Name of the Wind', but in 'Wise Man's Fear' Rothfuss wrote himself into a corner. The books clearly establish the story as taking place over THREE nights and each of the THREE books is narrated over a single night. Book 2 is very bloated and does almost nothing to advance the overall plot. I do not see how he can possibly resolve all the remaining plot points in a single novel.
Art takes time, it can't be rushed. It took 10+ years to write the first one, give the man the time he needs to write a quality story that he's capable of, he owes us absolutely nothing l. It's like someone gave us a cake out of the blue and being pissed that there's no more cake at our convenience. Patrick rules! Have a little faith.

I think Rothaus’s should let Sanderson finish the third book for him.
There is a certain kind that, once they've "made it" will not continue.
That dude's obviously not even working on it if after a decade and a half he doesn't have 2 chapters yet

Then you write a book.
I have. Two, to be precise.
Then I rescind my snarky comment haha
I was unable to read through Martin or Rothfuss' first novels. Glad I didn't waste my time.

Sadly, I doubt Rothfuss will ever finish his series. Similar to Martin, I gave up on his books long ago.
no

“No one wants that book to get done more than him”
Very cagey with the passive voice there. That’s not quite the same as “No one wants to sit at the computer and actually write the book more than him.”
