Firaxis and 2K promised that it is working on a number of “free updates” to Civilization VII after the game received “Mixed” reviews following its release.Fandom Pulse is a reader-supported publication.
I was excited by a new Civ, but never planned on buying until the starter bugs were worked out -
nobody releases an actual complete game any more, and Civ has a long history (heh) of being so-so until some patches and DLC are out (not to mention communtiy mods!). The more I hear about this one, the less sure I am I'll buy it at all, maybe when it goes down to the 80% off sale.
Fireaxis are pretty inept. Always have been. Civilization has been going downhill pretty much since Civ5. XCOM started as a solid (if not amazing) reboot of a great series and within two more releases was a complete garbage.
Firaxis are somewhat ok when they have strict ruleset and systems created by someone more competent than them. As soon as they steer farther away from those, it's a disaster. Then they try to compensate with virtue signaling and stuff completely unrelated to gaming - and fail again.
The underlying problem here, is the same one that numerous other AAA developers face: A crisis of competence, since they’re filling their ranks with trannies and DEI hires.
AAA gaming (CoD excepted. Maaaaybe) won’t get good again until they get rid of these people.
CIV series peaked with CIV4.
CIV2 is still playable.
Thanks. I was planning on getting this game. Guess, I'll wait. I can keep playing Civ VI.

Free garbage is still garbage.
