RIP Shooter, he was the best Editor any superhero-comic company ever had. I don't know if the present industry can survive his loss but this saddens me a great deal. I liked him. He was a hero at one time to my brothers.

He saved Spider-Man... I-I feel strangely choked up and sorrowful like an uncle has passed away. I think I'm going to have to call up my friends in Arizona to check in on them. They've worked animation and I want to make sure they're okay.

I also need to write a hero like Jim into one of my Conan stories, as this feeling of loss needs a... outlet? I don't know. I never knew this guy but loved the influence he had, his instincts, his strength and his passion. May our Lord receive him into His embrace and bless him with eternal life.

May he rest in peace. Jim Shooter is a major reason for Marvel's success. He did his job as an editor and removed nonsense stories. If not for him, you'd be seeing the same progressive garbage years prior to when it started to dominate comics.

Poor guy died of cringe, not cancer.

Marvel today...

Fair point, it wasn't always like this, and it is why we younger writers MUST fight to save literature and rid it of cringe.

While finding Secret Wars incomprehensible, I also found his work in comics, especially writing and editing, close to the level of the great Stan Lee. His Valiant universe was really fun, and I never understood why he was removed. The quality declined significantly, I stopped reading them, and later stopped reading modern comics ever since. But I treasure my classics collected in hardcovers and softcovers, and now Kindles. Sorry to hear he's gone.

The World of Comic Books is a much poorer place for this man's passing.

Memento Mori.

For awhile he had a very interesting blog. The best story I recall is when he went for a ride in Herb Trimpe's Stearman biplane! I also recall him being on the cover of COMICS SCENE with Jack Kirby. SECRET WARS will probably be his lasting contribution. The one quote which stood out to was when he was writing Marvel superhero crossovers he declared that "Captain America is the moral center and the moral anchor of the Marvel Universe." That's one of the reasons I despise what Ed Brubaker did to the character.
