I feel for the man, but as he said, they bought the book. They can do with it what they want. If they want to sell it, they can. If they don't, they don't have to.
That's one of the reasons why I no longer want an agent or a big publishing company to buy my books.
I operate under the umbrella of, "If you don't own it, it's not yours."
Maybe everyone should tell the big publishing houses to kick rocks and go into business for themselves.
They paid him an advance, you'd think they'd want to earn that money back by selling copies of the book they paid for or by letting him buy it back. Used to dream of being published by a company, not anymore.
From what I have heard publishers are great if you are already a bestselling author because you can just write and they will organize conventions, marketing campaigns, etc.
I've heard if you are just starting out they can be brutal.
I've heard of this happening before. He's going to have to go to a lawyer and do a little creative loop holing to get his rights back but he might be able to. Unless they plan on publishing in the future. Never sell your rights to your book, you characters, none of that. Geez the pleasure of being self published never cease!
I am ignorant is this Rebellion the same Rebellion that owns 2000AD(the comic and not the year)? At least it has not become 2000 CE stuff that bullocks

Self publish. Michael Sullivan does that, him and his wife. They are great at it. Ryan Cahill is another. Don’t trust these immoral companies.

These days the only benefit of getting a publisher is for the advance. Or am I way off?

I mean, I guess he got paid, but how painful that he can't show it to the world.
