A new report alleges that Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman video game, which was announced back in 2021, might never release to market.Fandom Pulse is a reader-supported publication.
By napkin math alone it does not look good for Monolith Productions. Any hit WB game needs to recoup the losses of other titles including Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Sometimes it is better to cut losses and release the game in a buggy and unfinished state, so this report suggests the current iteration of the Wonder Woman game is just that bad.
I miss the F.E.A.R. and Condemned games from Monolith. Never got into the Shadow of Mordor games. Might never get to see a Shogo 2 and the first Shogo was a rushed, buggy mess, but it was still fun even back in 1998. Something that is entertaining can help the wrinkles and imperfections be less deal breaking. I wish studios remembered that.
Monolith also made Blood and I wonder if there is still version of that company that made unique and fun FPS's still there? Making licensed stuff for Warner Bros. (and I'm aware that the LOTR games has it's fans) doesn't seem to cut it. It's clearly that WB is dictating on what Monolith gets to make.
Many gamers were praising the nemesis system from Shadows of Mordor 1 and 2 and it did sound really unique at the time. Wonder Woman was allegedly supposed to incorporate that feature.
I can't believe I forgot Blood! Blood was great and even received an outstanding remaster from Nightdive Studios, I think Blood: Fresh Supply or something like that. I don't think many of the OG FPS guys are left. I followed Craig Hubbard lead designer of F.E.A.R., Shogo, Gotham City Imposters, and I think Blood as well, when he left Monolith. He and a few ex Monolith guys did the highly atmospheric game Betrayer which can be found here free to download off GoG. I was part of the early access for the game and Craig deeply cared about writing and design, I think he moved to Sweden to work at Sharkmob on a Vampire the Masquerade game.
I think you are correct at WB dictating what projects Monolith want to work on. Nightdive Studios wanted to bring back No One Lives Forever (NOLF) and WB Games I think had the license and they shut them down. Nightdive at the time, I think and could be wrong as this was like 10 years ago, speculated that WB Games did not want older releases cannibalizing sales of newer titles. OMG. NOLF 1 and NOLF 2 were Craig Hubbard lead designed games as well and if I had a time machine I would have told past me to pick those titles up rather than Halo PC at Fry's Electronics.
<sigh>
Maybe WB Games after shutting down their best studios will get 3rd parties to remaster their games.
It would be a blessing if this is never released.
I want this feminist garbage to come out. It will be yet another financial disaster for WB.
